About the Project [learn more]
For more than 4 years, the City has been working with the community and Caltrans to initiate a substantial rehabilitation of the Fair Oaks Avenue Bridge. Located between Kifer Road and Evelyn Avenue, the bridge crosses over the Caltrain tracks and Hendy Avenue. Once complete, this safety enhancement project will maintain the same number of automobile lanes, include a separated sidewalk on the east side of the bridge and improved bicycle facilities in both directions.
Construction is anticipated to begin spring 2016. The City’s goal is to maintain one travel lane and one bike lane in each direction during this time. Short-term lane closures may also be required. In addition, the Hendy Avenue underpass area will be closed during early construction phases (approximately 8-10 months) to help expedite the overall construction schedule. Pedestrian access over the Caltrain corridor will be maintained until bridge construction is complete.
